Tvornica "Torpedo" (the Torpedo factory) The first European prototypes of a self-propelled torpedo were created by Giovanni Luppis, a retired naval engineer from Rijeka. The remains of this factory still exist, including a well-preserved launch ramp used for testing self propelled torpedoes on which in 1866 the first torpedo was tested. Svetište Majke Božje Trsatske (Sanctuary of Madonna Trsatian) (Zvijezda mora, Kraljica Jadrana, zaštitnica putnika - Star of the sea, Queen of Adriatic, protector of the travelers.) Built 135 meters above the sea on the hill Trsat 7 centuries ago, it represents keeper of the travelers and especially seamen who bring offerings to madonna so she will guard them or to help them in troubles or illness. is a town in western Croatia, just southwest of Rijeka on the Adriatic coast. Opatija is situated in the Gulf of Kvarner in a sheltered position at the foot of Učka mountain. It is a popular summer and winter resort, with average temperatures of 10°C in winter, and 25°C in

summer. Opatija is surrounded by beautiful woods of bay laurel. The whole sea-coast to the north and south of Opatija is rocky and picturesque, and contains several smaller winter resorts. Opatija is known for the Maiden with the seagull, a statue by Zvonko Car (1956), which is positioned on a promontory by the Juraj Šporer art pavilion. It has turned into one of symbols of Opatija. A gilded variant of the statue Madonna, that once stood here but was demolished by a storm, now stands in front of the Saint Jacob Church.

Lovran (Italian: Laurana) is a town in Istria, Croatia. It is situated on the western coast of the Kvarner Bay with a population of 3,241 (2001 census). Its name derives from Laurel (Laurus nobilis), as shown in the coat of arms.

Rabac, (Italian: Portalbona) a Croatian village in Istria, is a large resort town on Kvarner Bay, just southeast of Labin. Long a small fishing port of just three dozen homes, Rabac has grown in recent years into a resort town with numerous villas and apartment buildings.
The Rabac Festival is an annual electronic music festival that has been held there for many years; 3000 people attended in 2002. Baška (German: Weschke, Italian: Bescanuova) is a small town located on the island of Krk, in the Kvarner Bay, at the Adriatic seacoast of Croatia. The population of the municipality is 1,554 (2001), with 901
residents of Baška itself and the rest in three other villages. Baska has one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia and on the Adriatic coast. Many sea shells and marine life are vibrant in this city. Sharks are sometimes seen in the deep waters 5-10km away from the very frequented beach. The historic monument Baška tablet was found in Jurandvor near Baška. Baška is the best known tourist resort on the island of Krk, the Adriatic's biggest island.

Omišalj (Italian: Castel Muschio; German: Moschau) is a small coastal town in the north-west of the island of Krk in Croatia. The population of the town itself is 1,790 (2001), while the Omišalj municipality also includes the nearby Njivice, bringing the total up to 2,998 people.
Omišalj is one of the oldest towns on Krk, dating from the 3rd century, when it was built by the Romans and named Fulfinium. The town was built on the cliff overlooking the bay of Kvarner, some 80 meters above sea level. It is the site of an early Christian basilica. The town was referred to in the 12th century as "Castri musculi": this is from the Latin Ad musculi meaning "the place of shells".
Omišalj is best known in modern times for hosting the Rijeka international airport as well as an oil terminal.

Cres has been inhabited since Paleolithic time period and was later ruled by the Roman Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire the island was taken over and ruled became a part of the Byzantine Empire,
and remained this way for centuries. In th 7th Century the Croats invaded the island, and the other islands around it, and took the islands over, however the Croats returned the islands in the eary 800's (believed to be somewhere around 812).
Around 822 Croatia became an independent state, while on the island Croat-Roman tensions grew. Then, around 866 the inhabitants saw the first conflicts between the Croats and Venetians. The Venetians eventually set up their rule of the islands in the 10th and 11th centuries.
